Bright White | Birkigter Garten | May, 1925

generation_021

This happens to be another master photography from the mid 1920ies [1]. Mind the perfectly balanced contrasts and symmetry and the stunning focus. The young mother seems to be shining as she steps out of the shadows of Birkigter Garden which is supposed to be (or to have been) located in Western Bohemia. The two neat girls were certainly fascinated by the photographer and his equipment.

three generations cooking | Sonnberg/Carinthia/Austria, 13.08.1933

Agfa Lupex contact print, 13.08.1933
Agfa Lupex contact print, 13.08.1933

Early Agfa Lupex contact print showing a typical Carinthian Rauchküche (kitchen with open fireplace). Three generations stand together on this image when a meal is prepared in a huge wrought iron pan.  The girl does not seem to know what is going on, her mother and grandmother are aware of being imaged. The  image is labed “Eine alte sogenannte “Rauchküche” am Sonnberg | Stall, 13.08.1933″. Should be Republic of Austria | State of Carinthia | District of Spittal an der Drau | Community of Stall | Village of Sonnberg. Really nice portait of rural Carinthia and its traditional costume. This is one to behold.

Countrywoman with baby | ~1910

Silver gelatine, about 1910
Silver gelatine, about 1910

This is a silver gelatine print of a mother wearing traditional costume with a wide skirt, black leather boots and a headscarf. She proudly presents her smiling baby wrapped in white clothes. Could be within photo studio – there is a painted wall behind her and there is a fur on the floor where she is posing. Guess the unlabeled photo was taken in Eastern Europe, probably in Eastern Slovakia, Eastern Poland,  Southern Belarus or in the Western Ukraine about 100 years ago.

steamboat trip | 1917

On the river Elbe, 1917
On the river Elbe, 1917

This small albumen print shows a travelling kid accompanied by probably its mother or its grandmother. The print is lettered: “Elbeschiff Dresden-Pillnitz, 1917”. Means this print shows a steamboat on the river Elbe between Dresden and Pillnitz, Germany near the Austro-Hungarian border.
